My sessions with Erik really helped me see everything around me in a different light. I was nervous for my first session because I had never tried counselling before and I didn’t know what to expect, but once I met Erik he was so easy to talk to and understanding that it wasn’t difficult to open up to him at all. He made me feel comfortable and his office was like a safe space where I could talk about things that I didn’t want to tell any of my friends or family. I saw Erik consistently for about almost a year and I know I am a very different person now than I was before I started counselling. Erik helped me realize and understand my emotions better. I have had anxiety for as long as I can remember and I used to have random anxiety attacks because I didn’t understand how to cope with my emotions and it would overwhelm me, but since I have learned better coping mechanisms from Erik even when I feel anxious I am able to keep myself calm. In the last year I haven’t had any panic attacks or anxiety attacks. I feel more confident in myself and I feel like I have more control over myself and my emotions and I know I wouldn’t feel like this if it hadn’t been for my counselling sessions. I was in counseling for depression and anxiety for 6 months (Sept 2019 - March 2020) but that was cut short due to the pandemic, right when I was seeing progress. For weeks, I was just trying to cope with things, when things went from bad to really bad; after I was involved in a bad car accident in May 2020. My depression, anxiety, and general emotional state were a mess and I was also experiencing some PTSD from the accident. This is when I needed help and found Erik! Honestly, I was a little hesitant with a male counselor having only worked with female counselors prior. But that apprehension went away 5-mins into our first session. Erik certainly has the demeanor and personality that helps you feel calm. It was easy to express my thoughts and talk openly about my feelings. His mindfulness approach combined with practical CBT strategies really worked for me and after a few sessions, I noticed significant positive improvements in my mental state. Erik helped me through so much! He helped me discover that I had OCD, and introduced me to various different methods to help ease my mind and clear my head.
