Q: I’m interested in trying out therapy, but this is my first time and I’m a little apprehensive/scared/freaking out on the inside. Could you tell me what to expect in a first session?
A: I felt the same way the first time I talked to a therapist! But there’s nothing to worry about. Usually, a first session will go something like this: we’ll sit down in the office and get comfortable, then I’ll go over a little paperwork with you (what we call Informed Consent, explaining your rights in counselling), then we’ll chat about what brought you here. My style is open and relaxed, and our first session together is mainly about getting to know one another, getting to understand the challenges you are facing, and working together to set some goals for our sessions.
Q: Alright, I want to book an appointment. How much is it?
A: A standard individual counselling session lasts for 50 minutes and costs $140 + GST = $147. I also offer extended sessions for 80 minutes; these are $210 + GST = $220.50. A couples counselling session typically is 80 minutes, for $210 + GST = $220.50.
Q: Do you offer a discount?
A: I do, on occasion, have sliding scale slots available for clients that can demonstrate financial need. Please contact me at erik@erikschindler.com for more details.
Q: Do you accept extended medical benefits?
A: YES! I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. Many extended health plans in BC will cover psychological services provided by an RCC. Usually these plans require you to pay up front and then get reimbursed by your provider. Please check the details in your plan to see if you have coverage.
Q: How can I pay?
A: I accepts cash, cheque, and credit cards.
